In the last weeks, Germany, Romania and Finland have authorised thiamethoxam and fipronil, two highly bee-toxic insecticides, under article 53 of the pesticide regulation 1107/2009. PAN Europe considers these authorisations illegal as article 53 clearly states that such authorisations may be granted in case of emergency only if no reasonable alternatives exist. Such alternatives exist. PAN Europe exhorts thus the European Commission to act and launch infringement procedures against these Member States.
